CREW Greater Philadelphia members enjoyed a tour last week of the recently completed Hyatt Centric Philadelphia. Several Chapter members and companies were part of the project from conception to final construction. This 13-story, 224,000 square foot mixed-use building was the former site of a dilapidated parking garage. It sits on a very small footprint with a mid-block entrance to a second floor lobby and offers 332 guestrooms, a restaurant, bar, fitness center, meeting and event spaces, and a green roof. On the ground floor is 6,700 sf of class A retail and the entrance to two levels of underground parking for 220 vehicles.
Attendees heard about the challenges the $80 million dollar project faced, starting with design considerations to create a building in line with skewed property lines, to shipping delays, supply chain issues and a brief halt to construction when the building was 85% complete at the start of the covid-19 pandemic.
A short walk from Rittenhouse Square, the hotel serves as a vibrant new addition to Philadelphia.
A huge team was involved in the project including Philadelphia-based firms Clemens Construction Company, DAS Architects, The Harmon Group, Bala Engineering, Becker & Frondorf and The Lighting Practice. Individuals from several of these companies are members of CREW Greater Philadelphia!
