Congratulations to Stacey Boston on her new position with Haworth, Inc!
Stacey Boston
Title: Mid-Atlantic Sales Director
Company: Haworth, Inc
Years in Commercial RE: 16+
Are you a Philadelphia native? If not how did you end up in Philadelphia?
I grew up an hour north of Philadelphia in Lawrenceville, NJ but moved to Philadelphia after graduating from the University of Delaware and I have been here for the last 16 years.
Favorite part of CREW, or why did you join?
I remember the first CREW event I attended, I just started to transition from doing in-house marketing for a design firm to Business Development and I didn’t really know anyone outside of those I worked with. I showed up at a CREW event and was like a deer in headlights. As I was scanning the room there was a high-top table of 3 women and they were waving at me and called me over. I explained that I was new and I didn’t know anyone and they took me around and introduced me to everyone at the event. I was hooked! I never felt more welcomed into an organization and try and do the same for all the new members who join CREW.
What keeps you motivated?
Haworth is one of the leaders in the contract furniture industry and I am very competitive so working for a sales organization is perfect for me. It is fast paced and a lot of fun. They also are on the cutting edge of the latest research in workplace design and trends, so I am constantly learning and developing new skills. As a leader, a big part of my role is developing and coaching my team and that is probably the biggest motivator of all. I love helping people and seeing people grow and reach their full potential.
What do you like to do in your spare time? Hobbies?
I am a very active person and I love to be outdoors so I do a lot of running, biking and hiking. On the flip side, I am a bit of a foodie and always checking out the latest Philadelphia restaurants.
If you could learn to do something really well what would it be?
Golf. I have been playing for several years but never get out as much as I would like each season so my progress has been slow but I still have a lot of fun when I am out on the course.
Favorite spot in Philadelphia or surrounding area?
Wissahickon Park. It is right by my house and I am always out there either running or biking on the TOW path or hiking in the park. It is such a beautiful part of Philadelphia and I love how it changes throughout the seasons.
What does a typical day on the job look like?
No two days are the same for me which is a lot of fun. My days are filled with client appointments, showroom tours, networking with industry professionals and working with my team and dealer partners on projects. Haworth is headquartered in Holland, Michigan and I cover all of Pennsylvania, South Jersey, Delaware and Upstate New York so I travel quite a bit but spend majority of my time in downtown Philadelphia.
Who do you most admire?
My parents. They owned their own business when I was growing up and they were the best role models for me. They taught me to work hard and play hard and that respect and honesty are critical to success. Having parents who are entrepreneurs also showed me that you can do anything you put your mind to and never be too proud to ask for help when you need it.
What achievement defines you as a person?
I don’t think I can point to one achievement that defines me as a person. In each role I have had over the years I have strived to be the best I could be in that role. I learned from each experience and applied what I learned to each role I had. Going back for my MBA in Strategic Design while working full time was definitely an achievement I am proud of. In addition to everything I learned in school, I certainly learned about time management and prioritizing what is important.
Are there industries you work with most? What are they?
Corporate is Haworth’s largest market and where we focus most but we also do a lot of Higher Education and Healthcare work.
How has CREW influenced your career?
CREW has been very influential on my career. Being surrounded by such amazing, very successful women has taught me to never settle and always keep working towards my goals. I have been very active in CREW over the years and involved in many committees, working my way up to chairing a few committees. Eventually, I made my way to the board level, which I have now served on for the past 2 years. There are so many leadership opportunities within CREW and skills you learn and experiences you have has been a big influence on my career.
