Are you a Philadelphia native? If not how did you end up in Philadelphia?

I am not a Philadelphia native, but I have learned to love the city. I was raised in north central NJ, and spent 15 years in State College, PA. In 2011, we moved to Philadelphia for employment opportunities, and to be closer to family, and it was the best move we ever made.

What keeps you motivated?

My children and granddaughter keep me motivated. I do not want them to ever settle for “just good enough” so I try to teach them through example to keep making, chasing, and accomplishing dreams and goals.

Favorite spot in Philadelphia or surrounding area?

My favorite spot downtown is the Reading Terminal. I love the selection of foods and treats, and of course, Termini’s cannoli!

What does a typical day on the job look like?

My favorite part about my job is that no day is typical! One day I can be in the office researching properties, making calls, or writing reports, and the next day I can be inspecting an old textile mill downtown, or an old historical site in the suburbs, or a farm in one of the outer counties. No two jobs are the same and no two days are the same.

What achievement defines you as a person?

I recently sat for the State Exam for my Certified General Appraiser’s license and passed on my first try which I was told was not possible. When I went back to college in my 30s to finish my bachelor’s degree, I didn’t know what I wanted to do or where I would end up. When I was given the opportunity to explore appraisal, I became hooked and knew this was the career for me. Passing the exam and earning my license made it all worthwhile.

How has CREW influenced your career?

The women of CREW have had a huge influence on who I want to be in my career. I see members speak in front of large groups, hear about their work on different projects, attend the events that they coordinate, and I think, “I can do that, I want to do that.” These are women who are balancing a career, a personal life, some have children, some sit on multiple boards, and they still put their all into CREW because it means something.
